WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - U.S Secretary of State Antony Blinken's next stop in his tour of the Middle East is in Saudi Arabia, after he finished his talks in Israel with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "Get the hostages home and bring the war to an end with an understanding of what will follow," Blinken said. Blinken says with Israel's recent tactical victories over Hamas, the U.S hopes to revive ceasefire talks. "We talked about the plan that we've had on the table and the work that we're doing on that plan, looking at new frameworks and formulations as a possibility," Blinken said. Officials with the U.S., Israel and Egypt confirmed they recently discussed a new proposal for a limited ceasefire and hostage release. "I believe that with Sinwar gone, because he was the primary obstacle to realizing the hostage agreement, there is a real opportunity to bring them home and to accomplish the objective," Blinken said. Hamas had made clear it will only release captives in return for a lasting ceasefire, full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the release of Palestinian prisoners but the White House remains optimistic. "We wouldn't be engaged in this, these diplomatic efforts if we didn't think there was still, an opportunity here to get a cease fire," White House National Security Spokesperson John Kirby said. The war has destroyed large portions of Gaza and 90% of its population is displaced.
