COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Earlier this month, witnesses reported a blue Chevy pickup truck hitting 22 year old Xavier Jackson, a Columbia man found dead in the 3400 block of Bluff Road. Wednesday morning, the man accused of hitting Jackson appeared at a bond hearing at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center after being arrested earlier this week. Defendant James Gilmore, 40, faces charges of hit and run as well as failure to give information and render aid. Local attorney Seth Rose represented Gilmore and asked a city of Columbia judge for a surety bond for the defendant. Rose told a Columbia judge that Gilmore did not pose a danger to the community nor was a flight risk. However, the judge disagreed, denying bond for Gilmore. The defendant’s next court appearance is set for December 13th.
