(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said a homicide suspect ran from officers, changed vehicles in an attempt to hide, and barricaded himself in an apartment in the evening hours of Tuesday, Oct. 22. According to CSPD, on Tuesday, at around 9 p.m. Detectives with the Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force working with Metro detectives, the U.S. Marshall Fugitive Task Force, State of Colorado Parole Fugitive officers, and a Colorado State Patrol aircraft located a homicide suspect, 49-year-old Victor Carson aka Victor Martinez, driving an alleged stolen vehicle. Carson was wanted in connection to the July 27 murder of 52-year-old David Charles Compare. PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Arrest made in COS shooting, second suspect on the loose Police said Carson drove erratically and switched vehicles to disguise his movements. Detectives followed Carson and watched him enter an apartment on the 3900 block of North Nevada Avenue just south of Garden of the Gods Road. Detectives got a search warrant for the apartment. Police and K9 officers surrounded the apartment and gave multiple announcements identifying themselves as police and informing Carson he had a warrant. Carson did not respond and police were informed that Carson was allegedly armed and had made threats to have a shoot-out with police. Carson exited the apartment and surrendered to officers. CSPD reports Carson was not injured during the arrest.
