Former Southern University football head coach Pete Richardson selected for SWAC Hall of Fame

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Former Southern University football head coach Pete Richardson was selected for the 2024 SWAC Hall of Fame Class, the Southwestern Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Richardson, who is currently the second-winningest coach in Southern football history in wins and winning percentage, will join Alcorn State's Fred McNair, Grambling State's Hillary Matthew Bossier, Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Earl Goldman and Charlie Neal as members of the 2024 SWAC Hall of Fame Class, according to a news release.
During his 17-year career as head coach of the Jaguars, Richardson led Southern to five SWAC titles, including a three-peat from 1997-99. According to a news release, the Jaguars also claimed four Black college national titles during his tenure in Baton Rouge. He was also named SWAC Coach of the Year five times.

Richardson is also a member of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, Winston Salem State University Hall of Fame and the Black College Football Hall of Fame, according to a news release.
The 2024 SWAC Hall of Fame Class will be enshrined on Friday, Dec. 13. The enshrinement ceremony is set to take place at 7 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the Omni Hotel in Atlanta.
