GIDDINGS, Texas (KXAN) -- A voting machine at a voting site in Lee County was taken out of service this week after there were reports of it malfunctioning, according to Lee County Judge Frank Malinak. Malinak said in a Facebook post Tuesday that a voting machine at the Giddings Library "appeared to be malfunctioning" Monday and was taken out of service by the county's election administrator. KXAN Voter Guide: What to know for the November 2024 general election "It is believed this machine’s calibration was off, possibly due to damage that may have occurred during shipping. This issue has not been encountered in the other voting machines," the post read. Malinak added he voted at the site Tuesday and did not encounter any issues, and no additional issues had been reported. The post further explained what happened with the voting machine: "On this machine, after making the selection, the machine didn’t immediately advance like it should have so when the selection was clicked again, that selection was registered when the machine advanced to the next slide, possibly causing an incorrect candidate selection." Voters should review their selections on the final screen of the ballot before printing their voting card, then again review their printed card to ensure their intended vote will be cast, the post added. Malinak said he'd talk with the voting machine manufacturer and supplier to ask how the issue could have happened. "We must have confidence and trust in our election system, so I will be pursuing answers to this issue," he said in the post. If Lee County voters experience any other issues, they should please contact an on-site Election Judge for assistance, Malinak added in the post. Early voting started on Monday, Oct. 21, and will continue through Friday, Nov. 1.
