DELAWARE, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Delaware man has been found guilty Wednesday of shooting a 38-year-old to death in "broad daylight." A Delaware County Common Pleas jury convicted Rayshawn Lamont Anderson, 18, on two counts of murder and one count of discharging a firearm. He was 17 when he confronted the victim, Alonzo Byrd, outside his home in March. In "broad daylight," the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office said Anderson shot Byrd five times in the road. After Delaware police arrested Anderson, charges came against him initially in juvenile court. The case transferred to Delaware County Common Pleas Court once prosecutors moved to try him as an adult. The trial lasted seven days before the jury returned a verdict, according to prosecutors. "The life of Alonzo Byrd mattered," said Delaware County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Schiffel. "We are proud to stand up for all victims and hold individuals like Anderson accountable, no matter their age." Anderson is set for sentencing on Nov. 25, where he could receive up to life in prison, and would only be eligible for parole after at least 21 years.
