A California man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of his girlfriend was found stuffed in a trash can outside his Costa Mesa home, officials announced Wednesday. Daniel Allen Aldrich, 49, was taken into custody Tuesday night just hours after the Costa Mesa Police Department received a call about the body of a woman being found in the backyard of a home. According to police, first responders were called to the scene just before 2:30 p.m. After locating the body, officers quickly launched an investigation. The victim was initially described as a “female friend” of Aldrich. But on Wednesday, Costa Mesa detectives identified the victim as 38-year-old Julie Anne Sanetra, of Irvine. They also established that Aldrich and Sanetra were in a romantic relationship. After an investigation, CMPD officers located Aldrich at a home in Glendale, some 50 miles northwest of Costa Mesa. The suspect was then taken into custody by Costa Mesa detectives with the help of the Glendale Police Department. The circumstances surrounding Sanetra’s death are still being investigated. Costa Mesa authorities said the case is being submitted to the Orange County district attorney’s office for filing consideration. No other details have been released by police. Costa Mesa is described by residents as a ”quiet” Orange County city where “everybody is nice.”  A woman who lives in the area told NBCLA that the house where the body was found had been recently sold and she wasn’t familiar with its new owners. Another neighbor was shocked to hear the news. “This is very scary,” she said.
