ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Some Rochester residents will soon be contacted by the city regarding its water service lines.
The City of Rochester announced Wednesday morning that customers with service lines identified as containing lead or unknown material will be mailed letters. This comes as the city is working to remove lead service lines to ensure healthy, safe drinking water.

The letters will be sent out by November 1 to around 13,000 customers with lead service lines, 3,300 with lines containing galvanized steel, and another 17,000 customers whose lines are made of an unknown material.
The letters will disclose information about when each street is scheduled to have its water lines replaced and how to minimize lead in drinking water.
The City of Rochester replaced over 8,000 lead service lines and will be removing nearly 3,000 more with over $100 million in ARPA funding.
