The Community Chorus of Redlands will begin its 2024-25 season with “CelebratingCommunity,” a concert featuring music by Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber and Alice Parker, 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 419 S. Fourth St., Redlands. The program also includes the premiere of a piece by Jamison Stevens, the chorus’ recently appointed artistic director, according to a news release. Before the concert, Nathan Gonzales of the A.K. Smiley Public Library will give a pre-concert talk on Redlands’ musical history, according to the Community Chorus’ Facebook page. Following the concert will be a champagne reception hosted by the University of Redlands’Town & Gown organization. The concert and reception are both free. “We are thrilled to mark a new chapter in the chorus’ history,” Stevens said in the news release. “And I could think of no better way to begin our season than by celebrating the community which we have been a part of for over 45 years.” The Community Chorus of Redlands was formed in the fall of 1979 by Jeffrey H. Rickard, who was then director of choral activities at the University of Redlands, to participate with the university choirs in the presentation of the annual Feast of Lights. Stevens, who is also director of music at Community Presbyterian Church, was appointed artisticdirector of the chorus in this past summer. The choir’s associate director and accompanist is Irmengard Jennings. Following the Oct. 27 concert, the season will continue with “A Community Chorus Christmas” Dec. 20 and 21. featuring Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and a family sing-along program on the Saturday performance. Admission to all performances is free, though a freewill offering is accepted. For information, go to the Community Chorus of Redlands’ Facebook page or contact Stevens at [email protected].
