RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginians who have been victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, human trafficking or child abduction are invited to apply for a program that can help protect them from abusers. The Office of the Virginia Attorney General's Address Confidentiality Program provides victims with a legal substitute address, after which the office will securely forward mail to their real address, preventing their address from being visible in public records. "Every survivor in Virginia should know that they are not alone,” said Attorney General Jason Miyares. “Resources like the Address Confidentiality Program are available to provide safety and peace of mind, empowering survivors to focus on healing without living in fear.”  Once enrolled in the programs, participants are responsible for notifying state and local agencies, who are legally required to accept the substitute address as their official residential address.
