Longtime state Rep. Susan Williams Gifford dies of cancer at 64

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A longtime state representative has died of cancer.
Governor Maura Healey issued a statement on the passing of State Representative Susan Williams Gifford on Wednesday.
“I’m deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Representative Susan Williams Gifford. She was a dedicated public servant who always put the needs of her constituents first. We will miss her partnership and leadership. My heart goes out to her loved ones, staff and colleagues in the House during the difficult time,” said Healey.
Gifford was first elected in 2002 to serve the 2nd Plymouth District.
She most recently served as the Minority Whip in the House of Representatives, including assignments as the Ranking Minority Member on the House Committee on Steering, Policy and Scheduling, Ranking Minority Member on the Joint Committee on Agriculture, a member of the House Committee on Human Resources and Employee Management.
