CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The cause of the fire that broke out at the Applebee's at Garden City in Cranston was determined to be accidental, according to R.I. Commerce spokesperson Matthew Touchette. Touchette said the fire happened after there were "issues" while the hood and ducts were being cleaned, and those details remain under investigation. BACKGROUND: Applebee’s in Cranston deemed total loss after massive fire Crews were called to the scene around 5:30 a.m. last Wednesday and found heavy flames and large plumes of smoke coming from the roof.
