Suspect in August strangulation death now in New Orleans police custody

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The man accused of strangling a woman to death in August has been transported back to New Orleans.
36-year-old Courtney Cantrell has been booked into Central Lockup by NOPD in connection to the death of 44-year-old Patricia Fitzgerald.

On Aug. 19, Fitzgerald's body was discovered under the wharf near Esplanade Avenue and the Mississippi River.
NOPD officers began a homicide investigation after the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office discovered the woman had bite marks on her stomach. The coroner listed Fitzgerald's cause of death as “blunt force injuries and manual strangulation.”
Through an investigation, detectives identified Cantrell as the suspect. He was located and arrested in Poplar, Montana on Monday, Sept. 16.
Man found shot to death in Plum Orchard neighborhood
On Oct. 22, he was extradited from the Roosevelt County Jail in Wolf Point, Montana to New Orleans where he will face a charge of second-degree murder.
