MLGW program ensures power for eligible customers during winter months

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- As we approach the coldest months of the year, a Memphis Light, Gas, and Water program will ensure senior and disabled customers do not go without power.
MLGW said in a press release on Wednesday that the Winter Moratorium program will be available for qualifying disabled customers and seniors aged 60 and older.
The program will prevent cutoffs for the registered customers from December to February.
Participants are still responsible for paying their utility bills during this time, but if the bill is higher than what the customer can afford, the customer's utilities will not be shut off. Payment plans for accrued balances will then be set up in March, MLGW said.

One thing to note is that no new or previously enrolled applicants will be accepted into the program if they owe over $199.99 by the end of the business day on November 30. But, MLGW says previously enrolled customers will be automatically re-enrolled into the program if their balance requirements are met.
Acceptance into the program is not based on income.
Applications are due on November 15 and the program will begin on December 1. You can download the form here, or request that a form be mailed to you by calling 901-544-6549.
