RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Through just a handful of days of early in-person voting in North Carolina, over a million people have already turned in their ballots. On Thursday alone — the very first day of early in-person voting this election — 353,166 people cast their ballots at sites across the state. According to the North Carolina State Board of Elections, that set a record for first-day turnout. North Carolina woman finds couple after mail-in ballots found on the ground By the end of Monday, the state board's data showed 1,381,182 ballots have been cast. That total is a combination of all methods of voting: early in-person, mail-in civilian absentee, military absentee and oversees absentee. Over 20% of that total has come from the state's two most populated counties, Mecklenburg and Wake. Another nearly 70,000 ballots have been cast in Guilford County, and over 53,000 each in Forsyth and Durham counties. Though still recovering from Helene, and with logistics still an issue in many places, thousands of voters in western North Carolina have participated in early voting. In Buncombe County alone, more than 34,000 ballots have already been cast. The state publishes files every morning of the voting totals through the end of the previous day. Here are the early voting numbers through the end of Monday, Oct. 21. Local counties are highlighted.
