CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) — Carolina Panthers quarterback Andy Dalton and his family were involved in a car accident in Charlotte Tuesday afternoon, a team spokesperson confirmed with Queen City News. The spokesperson said Dalton, 36, was driving westbound on Sardis Road approaching Providence Road when the accident occurred. His wife, their three children, and their dog were also in the car. No one from Dalton's family was transported to the hospital, however. Dalton was being evaluated by team medical personnel, the spokesperson added. His wife, Jordan Dalton, posted to Instagram on Wednesday, thanking everyone for checking on them and for the quick response by emergency personnel. She noted they are "a little banged up." Why are some NFL players wearing two mouth guards? Additional details about the crash were not immediately available. Ten years ago, then-Panthers quarterback Cam Newton also was in a car accident in uptown, injuring his back. Dalton replaced Bryce Young as the starting quarterback for the Panthers in week three against the Raiders, leading the team to their first win of the season. But the Panthers have gone 0-4 since. He's thrown for seven touchdowns and six interceptions this season. Prior to joining the Panthers in 2023, Dalton had played for the Cincinnati Bengals (who drafted him in 2011), the Dallas Cowboys, the Chicago Bears, and the New Orleans Saints. The Panthers have not yet said whether Dalton will be able to play against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, though he was reportedly seen at the team's facility Wednesday morning.
