Capitol Plaza Trees Project CARSON CITY, Nev. — Just in time for Nevada Day, parade-goers and pre-partiers are invited to participate in a fun and educational Scavenger Hunt for tree lovers of all ages, courtesy of the Capitol Plaza Trees Project. Download the clues here, explore the historic grounds, snap photos of the designated Scavenger Hunt trees, and submit your photo collage to [email protected]. The participant with the most correct tree photos will be crowned the Capitol Project Trees Scavenger Hunt Ace, earning a certificate, bragging rights and a featured spot in Carson Now. From March to May, tree experts from Wood Rodgers, Inc. conducted a comprehensive inventory of every tree on the Capitol grounds. Along the way, they uncovered incredible finds, and now it’s your turn to explore and see them up close. Here are a few of the fascinating discoveries you will look for: Trees dedicated to each of Nevada’s 17 counties: In 1986, then-Governor Richard Bryan celebrated Nevada’s Arbor Day by dedicating a tree to each county. Nevada’s dual state trees: Did you know Nevada has two state trees? The Singleleaf Pine was declared in 1953, followed by the Bristlecone Pine in 1987. Sesquicentennial Incense Cedar: In 2015, Gov. Brian Sandoval dedicated this stately tree to commemorate Nevada’s 150th birthday. Ready to start hunting?
