BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 19-year-old driver in a crash that killed a passenger in 2023 has been sentenced to 1 to 3 years in jail, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office. The crash killed a 15-year-old on the evening of Aug. 20, 2023 at the intersection of McKinley Parkway and Quinby Drive. The 19-year-old, who was not identified due to youthful offender status that was granted on Tuesday, was under the influence of cannabis at the time of the crash. He pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree vehicular manslaughter in May. An additional 16-year-old was in the car and was transported to ECMC to be treated. Prosecutors said that they, along with the victim's family, objected to youthful offender status. Had that been granted, the driver, who is from Williamsville, would have faced up to 15 years in prison. 2 plead guilty to vehicular manslaughter for crash that killed teen girl The driver of the other vehicle, 30-year-old Justin Trane, also pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter.
