MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A driver says he's spent thousands of dollars replacing the windows of his Jeep, damaged repeatedly by car burglars in the Wolfchase area. D'Juan Terry drives a Home Depot big rig from Nashville several days a week. Terry said he parks his personal vehicle at the Wolfchase Home Depot or a nearby hotel lot. Jeep burglarized 5 times in 3 years. Courtesy: D'Juan Terry He said his Jeep has been broken into five times over the last three years, most recently this week, and he's had enough. "I have been in the Home Depot parking sleeping because I'm out of hours and I'm hearing noise. They were out there doing donuts and breaking into cars," said Terry. "I called, and the police came. They took off, and the police didn't chase them." Several cars shot up in Cordova Rafferty’s parking lot Terry said he has to replace every window of his Jeep, and the cost keeps going up. "I have only used my insurance once. Using my insurance is more expensive because it cost me more in the long run," Terry said. "I still have receipts from replacing the same window. It has now gone up from two hundred and some dollars to over five hundred for the same glass." Terry said the car burglars haven't taken much, but every time, they damage and ransack his Jeep. I work my butt off, and I'm thankful for the job that I have. I love going to work and I'm still not making enough to take care of myself where I can have and do and for somebody to do this to me for the fifth time," said Terry. Terry said it's gotten to the point where he is considering legally purchasing a gun. "We are not safe in our driveways," said Terry. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said Monday a homeowner was shot dead in Southeast Shelby County after he confronted individuals attempting to break into a vehicle in his driveway. According to investigators, 48-year-old Fernando Jones opened his front door, yelled, and was shot numerous times. Homeowner shot to death after confronting suspected burglars: SCSO "Every time you guys report, there is a lookout man with a gun, and there's the person breaking in, and there's the driver. If I walk around the corner, I'm shooting him first." In Tennessee, you cannot use deadly force to protect property, but you can use it to defend yourself or others in your home, business, or vehicle if you have a reasonable fear of imminent death or serious bodily injury. The SCSO is still looking for the people who killed Jones. The suspect's vehicle has been described as a white Honda Accord that’s between a 2021 to 2024 model. It appears the vehicle has a black accent package, including black side mirrors, an antenna above the back glass, and a possible thin black stripe across the rear spoiler.
