HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A front is currently about 350 miles north of Honolulu, with a weak high between the front and the islands. This is leading to light to moderate trade winds across the island chain this evening. Mostly cloudy skies with low clouds moving in with the trades and high clouds overhead. Radar shows scattered showers affecting windward areas of Oahu and the Big Island, while Kauai and Maui County are seeing fewer showers right now. The front to the north will slowly move south over the next few days, likely stalling near Kauai this weekend. The wind gradient will stay weak through Friday, resulting in light to moderate trade winds. This could allow for kona winds to form. High pressure building to the north will strengthen the trade winds over the weekend, leading to breezy to windy conditions by late Sunday and continuing through midweek next week.
