FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Fresno County District Attorney's Office has revealed the motive behind a young mother's shooting death in Clovis on Saturday, as well as the woman's relationship with the suspect. The DA's office announced on Tuesday that 21-year-old suspect Tavion Keyon Tapscott and 21-year-old victim Breaja Barbara Jones were previously in a dating relationship and had a child together. It is alleged that on Oct. 19, Tavion went over to Breaja's home to collect his belongings when an argument ensued. Tapscott then shot Jones one time, resulting in her death. Man surrenders after woman killed in Clovis home, police say Officials say Tapscott surrendered to the Clovis Police Department on the day of the incident. As a result, the DA announced on Tuesday that murder and child endangerment charges were filed against Tapscott for the murder of Jones. Officials add that at the time of the alleged incident, Tapscott was on formal probation for a domestic violence conviction from an April 2024 incident that also involved Jones. The DA says the Felony Complaint filed in the Superior Court alleged that Tapscott committed: One count of murder One enhancement of personal and intentional discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury or death One count of child abuse. The District Attorney adds Tapscott was also charged with having a prior strike conviction from 2019. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 87 years to life in state prison. Tapscott's arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct 23 in Department 30 of the Fresno Superior Court.
