FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Election day is just two weeks away and the Fresno County Elections Office has already received 60,000 ballots. With all those ballots each one must meet certain standards to be counted. “When you go and vote in person that way, your ballot goes directly into a tabulator. And if there's any issues, the tabulator is going to let you know, but you're going to be able to have your ballot counted right then and there," said Fresno County Registrar of Voters James Kus.  "When you return your VBM ballot, either through the post office or through one of our drop boxes or by dropping it off at a vote center it will go to our warehouse where it will be processed,” Kus said. Once at the warehouse, the voter's signature on the back of the envelope is compared to the voter's registered signature with the elections office. “If there are questions or a signature is missing we are going to reach out to that voter we give them the opportunity to cure the issue is with their signature,” Kus said. From there, ballots are removed from their envelopes and then sent through voting machines to be counted. Kus says it is nonstop work until every ballot is counted and the election is certified. “There’s a lot of pressure on us because everyone is looking to see those results, that's one of the reasons we like to get ballots in early," Kus said. For anyone with questions on the process, Kus says they should come down to Fresno County Elections Warehouse to see the process for themselves. “We make the process as visible as possible for anyone to come in and see every step of the process we're doing," Kus said. This weekend the elections office will open more than 40 polling locations for voting which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all the way through Nov. 5.
