SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) – Despite heavy opposition from neighbors, a new Costco is coming to West San Jose. San Jose city council members voted Tuesday to approve the construction of the warehouse store on Prospect Road. After three years of conversations, Costco is now approved to start building its retail store. The public wants the city to ask Costco to add special regulations to go along with its storefront  The decision to build the Costco upset many people who live in the area. Lydia Tan, a junior at Prospect High School, says the area already has enough heavy traffic. San Jose’s only Michelin-star restaurant announces reopening “Some of my friends have been run over and it's scary to think that’s going to get worse with this Costco, and I care about our community and I don’t want us to get run over,” she said.  She’s now asking the city for extra resources to make sure students like her can safely walk to and from school.  “I’d like to see a crossing guard of some sort or some people to help regulate the traffic because there are a lot of cars that do illegal maneuvers,” she said.   Some community members are happy about the Costco. “I go to church right down the street where the potential spot is. It will definitely help my church because we are dependent on Costco and it's really troublesome for us to drive down to Sunnyvale,” said San Jose resident Michael Wang. Costco is also promising to bring 250-300 jobs to San Jose. The date for Costco to be built is yet to be determined.
