SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Crews are responding to a fire at a Buddhist temple Tuesday evening in the Mission District, the San Francisco Fire Department said. More than 50 firefighters responded to Hua-Zang Si temple after receiving a call at 5:27 p.m. Video (above) shows flames coming out of the side of the main structure of the temple located at 3134 22nd St. Officials said the fire broke out at a residential building associated with the temple. The building suffered damage in its walls and the attic, according to SFFD. Eighteen monks were displaced, and the Red Cross is assisting them. One firefighter was treated for a minor injury, according to SFFD. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. At least three SFFD fire trucks were called to the scene in response. As of 6 p.m., the fire is being reported as a second-alarm fire, and SFFD units are still working on extinguishing it. KRON4 is sending a crew to the scene. This is a developing story.
