NEENAH, Wis. (WFRV) - The first day of early voting in Wisconsin saw higher-than-expected turnout, with many municipalities reporting record numbers at the polls. "A lot of voters came out on the first day," said Charlotte Nagel, Neenah city clerk. "We received a lot of phone calls during this whole entire process." One voter reported waiting over an hour to cast her ballot, noting that while the delays were frustrating, she appreciated the efforts to keep the process moving. “It might have been because it was the first day,” said Mary Ann Bazile, a Neenah voter. "We’ve done it twice now, especially this year because I believed that the lines would be very long on Election Day. I didn’t want anything to prevent me from voting, so I came out today.” Technical issues added to the delays, slowing down the voting process as systems struggled to handle the high volume. "But I think that's just because they're overwhelmed." As early voting continues, election officials hope the process will move more smoothly in the days ahead.
