ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - The Southwest Allen County Schools (SACS) Board approved all agenda items related to the 2025 budget during Tuesday night's meeting. Schools officials told WANE 15 two weeks ago the biggest difference between this year and last year is the nearly $7 million increase in the debt service fund. This is due to the district selling bonds to finish the Homestead High School project. During Tuesday's meeting, Mark Snyder, the director of business at SACS, said the project is on track to be finished by the start of the 2025-2026 school year. The education fund will increase by 6.42% from the 2024 budget, Snyder explained to WANE 15 previously it is normal to this increase. These will be funds they pull to pay the salaries and benefits for the staff. The bus replacement plan only has four buses to be replaced next year. The last public hearing for the Multi-Facility Improvement and Long-Term Capital Maintenance Project was held, and no public comments for the last hearing. The SACS school board did approve the districtwide project. "Our track needs resurfacing," said Snyder. "Our turf is coming up on the end of life, and then also the fencing around our track some of the posts have started to heave." The project will cost around $17 million.
