BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — At a court hearing on Friday, Oct. 18, a judge ordered Baton Rouge Police officer Joseph Carboni to permanently stay away from alleged victims, who accused him of abuse in 2023. Carboni was accused of physical and sexual assault, after body camera footage showed a 15-year-old in June 2023, explain to officers that Carboni hit him in the mouth with a taser. This is one of the first cases that came out of the alleged Brave Cave, which has since been shut down and the Street Crimes Unit was disbanded. An 11-year-old, who is now 12 years old, accused Carboni of sexual assault, and was also taken to the alleged torture warehouse. According to the juvenile, he and his family were taken to the warehouse in June 2023 after their home was raided. The 11-year-old told police in a lawsuit filed by their mother, that when they were transported, they were separated from each other. When the 11-year-old asked to use the bathroom, one of the officers reportedly also strip-searched, then cavity-searched the child, including touching his genitals and anus, according to the lawsuit. Baton Rouge therapists file federal lawsuit saying Louisiana violates their right to free speech Attorney for the family, Ryan K. Thompson, said Baton Rouge Police Chief Thomas Morse Jr. reprimanded Carboni after learning of more charges that were filed against him in the incident. Thompson says when he was originally given the body camera footage to review, it was revealed that much of the video was missing. He says he believes there is more to what happened in the body camera footage and has more questions for the Baton Rouge Police Department. "Whether you admitted it or you purposely did it, someone should be made to answer for not providing that video because the public has a right to know, because it would have validated further added support to the allegation that was made by the 11-year-old and his 15-year-old brother that someone had hit him in the face with their taser," said Thompson. According to Thompson, Carboni was only placed on a five-day suspension and currently still serves on the force.
