BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The political drama surrounding Kern County's 5th District Supervisor Leticia Perez continued Tuesday. Explosive comments were flying at the Board of Supervisors meeting. Perez's husband, Fernando Jara, rose from the audience to challenge a man who criticized the embattled county supervisor. Most of the public remarks at Tuesday's meeting were on other issues, but 30-year Bakersfield resident Tyrone Smith had fiery comments to all the supervisors, most notably District 5 Supervisor Leticia Perez. Never miss a story: Make KGET.com your homepage "I could see it in your face," Smith said. "I saw you on the news the way you look. It's upsetting to have you investigated for something minor like that, and your job potentially being on the line." A man in a blue suit moved to the seat right behind Smith as he was giving his comments. That man was Perez's husband, Fernando Jara. Below is what was said: Smith: "Karma, is real and every last one of you will receive it. Trust me." Jara: "Is that threat?" Smith: "It's not a threat it's just-- woah. Back up, chief." Jara: "You threaten my wife?" Smith: "Excuse me?" Smith: "What are you gonna do, bro?" Smith: "You really gonna walk up behind me? Your wife is gonna lose her job too." Smith: "Ya'll ain't nothing but drug dealers." Perez: "That's a complete lie. All of it complete lies …" After both Smith and Jara were escorted out of the chambers by sheriff's deputies, Perez followed, and so did 17 News cameras. Perez was trying to get Jara into an elevator but when he saw 17 News' camera, he stopped and stared at it. Supervisor Leticia Perez declines to appear for 5th District Supervisors debate at KGET "I've done nothing wrong, all I did was stand up," said Jara. After a brief recess, tension filled the room as Leticia Perez came back to the meeting and finished it. 17 News tried to get comment from Perez, but she declined again. The most recent Perez drama started Monday when she said District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer is investigating her for political reasons. Her chief of staff Christian Romo is alleged to have had political meetings and interviews on county property, using county resources, which is illegal under county law. Perez called out the Kern County Prosecutor's Association on Monday, alleging the raid of her office was for a political purpose because they endorsed her opponent in this years election, Kimberly Salas. The association released a statement Tuesday stating: "The Kern County Prosecutors Association is not involved in criminal investigations, including those involving public integrity. To tell the public that our association was involved in any way in this investigation, is dishonest and insincere."
