On Monday, the Chicago Board of Education website stated that the board meeting originally slated for Thursday would be rescheduled, and the next board meeting would be on Dec. 12. The monthly meetings are held so board members can vote to discuss and approve measures and renew contracts. They also provide an opportunity for members of the public to comment on issues in the district to the board. The Tribune reached out to the district Monday afternoon for comment about how, without concrete plans for a meeting, Chicago Public Schools planned to approve measures or seek public comment before December. The district didn’t immediately respond. On Tuesday, a Chicago Public Schools spokesperson emailed a statement saying that the October meeting was being rescheduled — not canceled. The website was updated Tuesday to announce that there would be an agenda review meeting on Thursday and a board meeting Nov. 1. According to the district, officials had shared that they intended to host another board meeting before December with some reporters last week. According to CPS, after the board meeting on Nov. 1, another board meeting is scheduled for Dec. 12. “The December meeting was always on the books as the Board sets its meetings about a year in advance,” the district spokesperson wrote.
