SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield Partners for Community Action hosted a financial literacy workshop for veterans on Tuesday. This event comes ahead of Veterans Day and it was all about letting these heroes know that there are resources available to them in the community. Veterans Day is approaching and Springfield Partners for Community Action is showing their appreciation for the country's heroes through a financial literacy workshop for veterans. Jorge Diaz explains what this workshop means to him, "This is a great program. They give you all the help that you need ..help that is sometimes impossible to get somewhere else. You come here and they make it easier for you. They help you a little extra they go the extra mile for you so this is the reason I always come to the programs here because this is what helps the community." This free workshop is all about providing veterans with financial advice and housing counseling. Veterans were allowed to meet with experts 1-on-1 to come up with a financial action plan and discuss credit scores, investing, and goals for savings. Springfield Partners is an organization that strives to help local residents achieve economic stability. They say it is important for veterans to be informed and learn about Veteran Affairs benefits so that they can make decisions regarding their finances. Event organizer Mark Chapman says this is especially important when veterans are transitioning into civilian life, "Hopefully there will be more events like this and organizations willing to help out veterans in the future." Springfield Partners continued to show their appreciation for these veterans by providing those in attendance with stipends and free tablets.
