SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The calendar may say October but it feels more like Summer than fall. Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee hit 85 degrees Monday, breaking the previous record of 78 degrees set in 2016. And Tuesday we saw temperatures near 80 degrees again. The sunny and warm weather has been a welcome change from the crisp fall temperatures. Those in Forest Park were seen taking advantage of the pleasant weather, hoping days like this continue. "The weather it's so nice, so beautiful it's not usually like this, especially because it's October it's warmer right now. I really love it, I love going outside when it's like this," said Jakeline Campana of East Longmeadow. Melissa Pava-Chevz from California came down to visit friends and family and loves to see similar temperatures to hers back home. "It's such a surprise I packed all warm sweaters and now I'm in t-shirts, I had to borrow some clothes, it's gorgeous gotta take full advantage," said Pava-Chevz. Others strolling through the park say they appreciate the opportunity to soak up sun and enjoy the beautiful fall foliage before the colder weather sets in. "I always enjoy that because of the colors and just enjoying this Forest Park landscape, we do this walk every day," said Xavier Molina of Springfield. 22News storm Team meteorologist Chris Bouzakis explains why we are seeing a pattern of warmer temps in mid-October. "It's got to warm and been so warm is just because we have an air of high pressure that is just dominating the region and this lifts the jet stream to the north of us and allows a lot of warm air to be pumped in from the south," said Bouzakis. And if you missed the chance to soak up the sun, these similar warmer temperatures are expected to continue into the day Wednesday. But this warm weather won't be sticking around for too long. Temperatures are expected to cool down back into the 50s and 60s by the weekend.
