BLUFFTON, S.C. (WSAV) - Hundreds gathered under the stars, and a tent, on Saturday to support a crucial nonprofit that serves thousands of economically at-risk neighbors in the Lowcountry. The eighth annual "Sips and Seafood Party" took place at Hewitt Oaks, an event venue in Bluffton, to benefit Bluffton Self Help. More than 350 people attended and enjoyed dinner, live and silent auctions, dancing and a presentation about the Getting Ahead program. Getting Ahead is a 16-week workshop where attendees learn to build more resources in their lives and be self-sufficient. Moving testimonials from three Getting Ahead participants helped raise more than $300,000 for the cause. Bluffton Self Help is perhaps best known for its market, where neighbors who qualify can shop for what they need. WSAV partners with the organization for the Holiday Hope toy drive that begins in November.
