CHAVES COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The flooding in Roswell last weekend even caught Chaves County Sheriff Mike Harrington who was stranded atop his patrol truck Saturday night. "At this time I am sitting on the roof of my cop car, my police truck, I am completely surrounded by water....as you can see down here that is the side of my truck and there are multiple vehicles, came into this not expecting this much water," said Sheriff Harrington on Saturday. Roswell residents pick up the pieces after record breaking rain and deadly flooding Over the weekend, Roswell was hit with more than seven inches of rain. The New Mexico National Guard said that led to at least two deaths and more than 500 rescues. On Monday, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed an emergency declaration for Chavez County giving the county $1 million in emergency funding. The city estimates the damage will be nearly $500 million.
