Suspect accused of double homicide in Farmington appears in court

FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) – The man arrested by Farmington Police for allegedly shooting and killing two people on Monday made his first appearance in court Tuesday morning.
Andrew Whittenberg is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, larceny of a firearm, and tampering with evidence. According to court documents, police believe Whittenberg broke into a home on Kayenta Drive and stole an AR-15 style rifle.

While responding to the incident, officers heard shots on the nearby English Road right near. That is where they found the body of Kelly Heath, whom Whittenberg allegedly at some point had a "personal relationship" with, per court documents.
Meanwhile, another shooting happened on East Main Street, where police say Whittenberg shot and killed Brent Francis outside Francis' workplace, according to court documents.
Whittenberg was arrested by the San Juan County Sheriff's Department and turned over to Farmington Police.
