An Apple Crash alert sent Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies to Promontory on Saturday. They observed a vehicle that had crashed near the side of the road in a swap when they arrived. It was unoccupied. While deputies were attending to the vehicle, Summit County Dispatch told them that the driver had called.The man said he had been involved in a crash and was lost, according to an affidavit of probable cause. Deputies and drones circulated the area in an attempt to find the man. Dispatch advised the man was 35 years old and walking on the road in a black jacket.A Utah Highway Patrol trooper assisting with the case located a man matching the suspect description about 300 yards from the crash. After the vehicle was towed, a deputy went to where the man was found. His clothing appeared to be wet and muddy, the report said. The man explained his vehicle flipped while he was coming from Promontory Ranch, where he worked. He admitted to having a few beers and smelled like alcohol. Deputies administered a standardized field sobriety test, but had to stop early because of the man’s level of intoxication.He was arrested under suspicion of drunk driving and refused to provide a breath sample. The man was taken to a hospital and medically cleared before he was transported to the Summit County Jail. Deputies obtained a blood test permit after the man refused to participate. He is being held in the Summit County Jail with bail.The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, Oct. 14, and Sunday, Oct. 20, including reports of driving under the influence, a vehicle burglary and traffic violations.Saturday, Oct. 19Walmart reported a shoplifter was in custody at asset protection. Deputies arrived and located the individual with several items he did not pay for. The man was also found to be concealing additional merchandise as well as drug paraphernalia. He was cited for retail theft and possession of paraphernalia.A vehicle was stopped on S.R. 224 near Cutter Lane for a traffic violation. Deputies noticed the driver displayed signs of impairment and issued a standardized field sobriety test. The driver failed and was arrested for suspected drunk driving. The individual was also charged for driving with intense high-beam lights.Friday, Oct. 18Suspicious activity was reported in the Snyderville Basin. A man said a large bag of marijuana was placed in his unlocked car while he was in the clinic. There are no suspects. The case was forwarded to investigators. Wednesday, Oct. 16A vehicle was stopped on eastbound Interstate 80 near mile marker 163 for a speeding and lane travel violation. Deputies contacted the driver and noticed an open container of alcohol. A standardized field sobriety test was conducted and the driver performed poorly. The driver was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail. The suspect was uncooperative and refused any tests at the jail. A warrant for a blood test was approved. The individual was charged with DUI, open container and speeding.Tuesday, Oct. 15A vehicle operating without insurance was stopped on westbound I-80. Deputies noticed the strong smell of marijuana coming from inside the car. A woman in the passenger seat admitted to being in possession of weed. A vehicle search was conducted and a 9mm handgun and drug paraphernalia were also found. The woman claimed ownership of the firearm. She faces multiple charges.Deputies stopped a vehicle in Newpark for an equipment violation. The driver was arrested for suspected DUI after an investigation. The individual was also charged with having an open container.Monday, Oct. 14A vehicle parked in front of a Hoytsville residence had an individual slumped over in the car. Deputies made contact with the driver, who agreed to participate in a field sobriety test. He performed poorly and was arrested under suspicion of DUI. Drug paraphernalia was also found during a search of the vehicle. The items were seized and booked into evidence. The driver was transported to the Summit County Jail without incident. He was charged with DUI, driving on a denied license and possession of drug paraphernalia.Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle burglary near Run-A-Muk dog park. A witness saw a man break the window of an SUV, take a purse and leave. A generic description was provided. The vehicle was not found. The victim later received a fraud alert notice from her bank which revealed a possible suspect name.
