BARRINGTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Barrington Police Department revealed that the “object of interest” found at a residence last week is an old training mortar. On Oct. 17, Barrington police were sent to Woodbine Avenue for a report of an unexploded object found on the front lawn of a home. At approximately 5:57pm, the Rhode Island Bomb Squad assessed the object to be an old training mortar, according to Barrington police. According to Britannica, a mortar is an artillery piece that fires explosive missiles at short ranges. The squad has since taken custody of the object and removed it from the property.       Categories: News, Rhode Island
