TIVERTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Fire crews spent hours battling a house fire off Beth Road in Tiverton on Tuesday. The homeowner reported heavy flames in the garage when calling 911. When firefighters arrived, they were met with thick smoke and fire spreading through the front of the home. According to Tiverton Fire Chief William Bailey, it took about two hours to get the fire under control. "Being a hot weather October day, it required a lot of mutual aid to get manpower here," Bailey said, noting the challenges of Tuesday's heat and humidity. Firefighters from Middletown, Bristol, Somerset and several other surrounding towns were called in to assist. "It's a very large house," Bailey added. "And with the weather, the crews were pretty depleted early on, so I just wanted first crews here so that we weren't overworking people." The residents of the home made it out safely and no injuries were reported. However, one Fall River firefighter was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. His condition is currently unknown. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Breaking News SIGN UP NOW
