PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — In less than two weeks, people across the country will be heading out to vote for the next president and other elected officials. If you won't be able to make it to the polls on Election Day (or don't want to wait in line) you have two options: turn in a mail ballot or take part in early voting. But if you didn't request a mail ballot before the deadline on Oct. 15, that leaves just early voting, which runs right up until Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Early voting is available in every municipality, mainly at city and town halls. Most will be open Monday through Friday, but a handful will have weekend availability, and the hours vary by location. LIST: Early voting hours and locations in RI Data from the R.I. Secretary of State's Office shows that as of 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, more than 53,000 Rhode Islanders have voted. Around 41,000 have done so in person, while more than 12,000 mail ballots have been received by the Board of Elections. Unsurprisingly, the biggest turnout so far is in Cranston, where there's a highly publicized mayoral race. The other two most populous cities in the state, Providence and Warwick, aren't far behind though, with Providence actually leading in mail ballots received and Warwick having the most early voters as of Tuesday evening. Cranston was second in both categories, which added up to the biggest combined turnout. Town-By-Town: Voter turnout in Rhode Island Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins and Democratic challenger Robert Ferri will take part in a 12 News debate this Friday, Oct. 25.
