ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — After more than 38 years, a woman who was found dead, floating in Lake Pontchartrain, has been identified. According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, the woman's body was found by a fisherman close to Slidell's shoreline near the Interstate 10 Twin Span on June 19, 1986. Man found shot to death in Plum Orchard neighborhood The woman appeared to be in her early 20s, and following a postmortem examination by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office was determined to have been a homicide victim. In the years since that declaration, the victim's identity remained a mystery, and she reportedly became known as "Lake Lady Jane Doe" Throughout that time, there were many efforts to identify the victim, including a facial reconstruction done with the help of the Louisiana State University FACES laboratory, as well as the subsequent image produced airing on the "America's Most Wanted" TV show. These efforts, however, all failed to yield a positive identification. In September 2022, a grant was availed to the STPCO for DNA analysis and genealogy research by NamUS. The analysis and research were to be done by Othram Inc., and by April 2023, Othram's work resulted in relatives of the victim being identified and subsequently contacted by the STPSO.
