 MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man charged with murdering his mother and trying to get rid of her remains cursed in court Tuesday when some of the charges against him were read. Tevon Rose, 24, is charged with murder, tampering with evidence, resisting arrest and abuse of a corpse in the death of his mother, whose remains were found Sunday in the backyard of a house they shared on Peppermill Lane in southeast Shelby County. Friends and family identify the victim as Rochelle Hill, who was Rose's mother. At times Tuesday, Rose was either shaking his head or rolling his eyes as the judge read aloud the three felonies and one misdemeanor. He responded with profanity to the charge of abuse of a corpse. Man charged with murder after mother’s body found Tevon Rose in court The judge told Rose this could be a capital case, meaning he could be sentenced to death, if he's found guilty. Rose learned he was being held with no bond and would be appointed a public defender. That led to more profanity, with Rose claiming the court was making the whole thing up. Rose, who was escorted into court without other inmates nearby, was closely watched by two deputies. Woman’s body found in wooded area; neighbors claim son responsible for her death The seriousness of what he's accused of had neighbors watching the day before as an investigation at the Pepper Mill Lane home he shared with his mother stretched on for hours. His mother's body was discovered in a wooded area behind a fence in the home's backyard. Detectives collected evidence while the victim's body was removed. Rose is set to appear back in court Wednesday for a bail review hearing. Court records also indicate a mental evaluation has been ordered.
