KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- New security cameras and lights were put up by the City of Kansas City recently in the hopes of preventing crime and keeping the city safe, Mayor Quinton Lucas announced on "X" Tuesday morning. Mayor Lucas said this is another step toward safety in Kansas City. New security cameras have been installed in downtown Kansas City to lower crime rates in the city. Learning curve ahead for KC Streetcar riders and drivers along route "More eyes on what’s happening and a more efficient ability to seek pinpointed deployment is something we are building out citywide to ensure a safer and more responsive environment," Lucas said in his post. He also said the next step is to add more surveillance on surface parking lots. Production company, MMTH Creative (pronounced Mammoth) is a business located in the Crossroads Arts District. The studio manager says it has been broken into twice, in as many years. "We've been broken into two times over the last couple of years, so yeah, it hits home, and I see other businesses constantly getting hit. It's just not good for this community,” Paul Strickland, Studio Manager, MMTH Creative shared. He adds, most businesses nearby already have their own security systems, but he is grateful for the extra help.   "I think with more presence down here, you might be a little bit less likely to want to hit this area. I know for us, it’s beefed up our security and I'm sure other places are doing that too,” he added. When, where does early voting start for Kansas City, Missouri metro voters? Mayor Lucas says the goal for the mobile cameras is simple. “They have both lighting and cameras. Part of that is deterrent, making sure there is more lighting in more spaces. The other part, however, is to make sure that we have faster eyes and ears,” Mayor Lucas shared. "Our goal in that is to say that we aren't relying on private business cameras, we aren’t relying on folks calling in themselves, we will have more investments on city streets and in hotspots.” Mayor Lucas says these cameras link to the Real-Time Crime Center with the Kansas City Police Department.
