More than $5 million in state funds will flow to a variety of local projects, making possible proposals ranging from ADU research to a “grander” Grand Avenue. The State Bond Commission signed off on that distribution of state funds Tuesday, according to a press release sent out by members of New Haven’s legislative delegation, including Senate President Martin Looney, Senator Gary Winfield, and State Reps. Toni Walker, Al Paolillo, Roland Lemar and Juan Candelaria. The funding, which totals $5.483 million, includes:• $3 million to Glendower Group and the city to support the “Grand-er Grand Avenue” project, from Grand to Quinnipiac Avenue. The project includes a number of major development and infrastructure projects along Fair Haven’s main commercial corridor. It has already received $6 million from the state Department of Economic and Community Development’s (DECD) CT Communities Challenge Grant program, and the city has also allocated $1.5 million. • $1,732,999 to the Cornell Scott-Hill Health Corporations for the first phase of renovations of the South-Central Rehabilitation Center.• $250,000 for City Seed to plan for a commercial kitchen and food business incubator.• $250,000 for Goodwill Industries of Southern New England to plan to research the feasibility of a capital project in New Haven to create “Goodwill Excel Center.”• $250,000 to the city to research and plan for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). “This support for our local communities represents new roadway improvements, new renovations for important city resources and new opportunities throughout New Haven,” Winfield is quoted as saying. “From roadway improvements, and enhancing options at the South-Central Rehabilitation Center, to increasing access to housing, this is great news for New Haven,” Walker said. “I am also looking forward to City Seed running a commercial kitchen and food business incubator that will complement the educational programs that a Goodwill Excel Center will bring to the city.”“Each of these projects will benefit New Haven residents, including the streetscape improvements from Grand Avenue to Quinnipiac Avenue, which go hand in hand with some of the traffic calming and safety improvements we have been working on,” said Paolillo.“Each of these projects celebrates the progress continuing to be made in New Haven.”Read the State Bond Commission’s full list of funding recipients here.
