CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man has been arrested in Texas for a deadly shooting that happened in east Charlotte on October 14th. Officers were called to North Sharon Amity near Central Avenue around 7am on Monday, October 14th for a welfare check. When they arrived on the scene, they located 25-year-old Jose Antonio Mejia-Gaona suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. MEDIC pronounced Mejia-Gaona dead on the scene. Julio Cesar Chacon Venegas, 41, was arrested in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, October 19th, according to a news release. Police say Venegas will be extradited to Mecklenburg County in the coming weeks. He has been charged with murder, according to CMPD.
