An accomplice in the crime -- Anthony Daniel -- was found guilty in 2022 and sentenced to 69 years to life in prison.
Prosecutors said Hines used Snapchat to set up Arechiga, who was looking to purchase a firearm from Hines. Hines and Daniel met Arechiga and Arechiga's girlfriend who were instructed to drive into an alley near Morin Court to complete the transaction.
Once in the alley, Hines and Daniel demanded Arechiga hand over his car keys, phone and money at gunpoint, according to prosecutors. The vehicle rolled forward and Daniel fired a shot through a rear passenger window that struck Arechiga in the back. Prosecutors said Hines took Arechiga's wallet and he and Daniel fled from the scene.
