AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the victim and also provided more details of a deadly crash that happened in southwest Austin last week. On Oct. 18, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to the crash between a truck tractor and a passenger vehicle around 7:13 a.m. on State Highway 71, the agency said. According to DPS, a 2024 Kia was driving east on Thomas Springs Road, and the truck tractor was driving south in the outside lane of SH 71 "The Kia disregarded a red light while turning right onto SH-71, striking the trailer of the truck tractor," DPS said. The driver of the Kia, Tracy Daspit, of Austin, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to DPS. The driver of the truck tractor remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators, the agency said. Next of kin was notified, and the crash remained under investigation by DPS Tuesday.
