A man who was allegedly driving recklessly in Oceanside died after his SUV crashed into a large, metal power pole in Oceanside on Monday afternoon, police said. The crash was reported after witnesses said they saw a Toyota RAV4 driving between 80 to 85 mph west on Oceanside Boulevard near Camelot Drive, Sgt. Clint Bussey said in a news release. Around 2:45 p.m., the SUV allegedly sped through the center double left turn lane and crashed into the pole, Bussey said. The 36-year-old driver of the car suffered fatal injuries, police said. His name was not released pending notification of his family. It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
