ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — This year, National Prescription Drug Take Back Day falls on Saturday, October 26. The annual initiative provides additional opportunities to dispose of unneeded, old, or expired medications in an effort to combat addiction, beyond what's normally available. News 8 has compiled a list of drug take-back events in the Greater Rochester Area: For October 26 Only: Batavia Police Department Batavia police are teaming up with the United Memorial Medical Center for this event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents may bring prescription drugs and sharps to the Batavia Police Department to dispose of them. Genesee County Sheriff's Office Residents in Genesee County may stop by Pembroke Town Hall to dispose of prescription drugs. The Genesee County Sheriff's Office will hold this event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Deputies advise that only prescription drugs will be accepted at this location. Irondequoit Police Department The Irondequoit Police Department is teaming up with Uplift Irondequoit to take back drugs at its office on Titus Avenue. This will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to accepting drugs, E-Cigarettes, and vapes, they also will provide Narcan. They will not accept liquid medicines or sharps. LeRoy Police Department The LeRoy Police Department's drug take-back event will be held at their headquarters on West Main Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Police advise that only prescription drugs are accepted. Newark Police Department The Newark Police Department is teaming up with the Wegmans on West Miller Street to accept unwanted tablets, capsules, patches, and prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The partnership has collected over 9,000 tons of medication. This collection will not accept syringes, sharps, or illicit drugs. Liquid products have to be sealed in the original container and the cap must be tightly sealed. Orleans County Sheriff's Office Deputies will host this drug take-back event at the Orleans County Public Safety Building in Albion from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents are assured this is a safe and convenient way to dispose of unwanted medication. Steuben County Sheriff's Office The Steuben County Sheriff's Office has teamed up with the county's Prevention Coalition Opioid Committee to accept drugs at the Public Safety Building in Bath. This will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents may anonymously dispose of tablets, capsules, patches, and other forms of prescription drugs. Victor Village Hall The Village of Victor is accepting unneeded medication from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Village Hall parking lot. All outdated, unusable medications, liquids, and sharps must be placed in a puncture-proof container. Wegmans Other than the Newark location, there are other Wegmans locations partnering with law enforcement to host drug drop-off events. These also allow customers to anonymously dispose of unwanted prescription drugs with no questions asked. Unless otherwise noted, these events will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Brockport, Calkins Road, Chili-Paul, Holt Road, Irondequoit, Lyell Avenue, and Penfield locations are all participating. Year-round: Hospitals and Pharmacies Local hospitals and pharmacies are accepting drug drop-offs year-round. Keep in mind the following hours and rules for drop-offs: Strong Memorial Hospital: Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Strong Ties Pharmacy: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. No sharps or needles are accepted! Highland Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy: Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Highland South Wedge Pharmacy: Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. No sharps or needles are accepted! Police Stations Five police stations in Monroe County accept drug drop-offs. Below are the following times for drop-offs and specific rules. Keep in mind drop-offs are not accepted on holidays: Brighton Police Department: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. excluding holidays. No sharps or needles! Brockport Police Department: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. East Rochester Police Department: Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fairport Police Department: Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Only pills are accepted! Monroe County Sheriff's Office: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at A Zone, B Zone, C Zone, and on South Plymouth Avenue. No sharps or needles! Ogden Police Department: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CVS Pharmacy CVS lists their Spencerport Road and Monroe Avenue locations as medication disposals in the Rochester area. They accept prescription medications, OTC medications, and liquid medication bottles. Drugs that are not accepted include illegal drugs, needles, sharps, aerosol cans or inhalers, chemicals, or devices containing mercury. Rite Aid Multiple Rite Aid locations in Rochester, Canandaigua, and Geneva allow customers to dispose of unwanted or expired medications. St. John Fisher University The university's medication disposal can be found at Haffey Hall for both students and residents in Rochester. It is advised to park in the temporary parking and head to the disposal near Safety and Security. The disposal accepts prescriptions, patches, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, samples, and pet medicine. It does not accept illegal drugs, needles or sharps, medical devices, aerosol cans, inhalers, chemicals, ointments, or liquids. Tops Friendly Markets All 54 of Tops Friendly Markets' pharmacy locations are approved prescription drop-off locations. Customers can get rid of these drugs in the designated disposal bins at the pharmacy department. You can find local Tops pharmacies in Irondequoit, Ontario, Greece, and Walworth. The pharmacy locator can be found by clicking here. Walgreens The Walgreens on East Ridge Road has a drug deposit kiosk for unused drugs. The pharmacy drop-off box is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, until 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Monroe County advises Walgreens customers this box does not accept sharps, needles, or liquids. Webster Town Hall Back in 2015, Webster Town Hall installed a CVS Drug Collection unit at the Police Department entrance, where you can deposit medication during business hours. This unit does not accept hydrogen peroxide, inhalers, aerosol cans, ointments, lotions, liquids, thermometers, needles, and medicine from businesses or clients.
