DERBY, Kan. (KSNW) -- Derby police and the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office will operate a Sobriety checkpoint this weekend. The checkpoint will operate on Friday from 10:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office says efforts will be made to lessen traffic interruption during the checkpoint, but it warns that many vehicles will be stopped. Man extremely critical after he was hit by a car in northeast Wichita Drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be given a field sobriety test on-site. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office says drunk or impaired driving continues to be one of the county's leading traffic problems. Nationwide, there is one alcohol-impaired driving fatality every 39 minutes, and 25% of those killed in those DUI-related crashes were children.
