Tips to prevent dryer fires
Clean the lint filter after each use to prevent lint buildup. Lint can reduce airflow and create a flammable fuel source.
Clean the vents outside twice a year, or more often if your clothes take longer than normal to dry. You can also have a dryer lint removal service.
Use the right duct: Replace any plastic or foil accordion-style ducts with a rigid metal duct.
Don't overload the dryer.
Don't dry flammable materials: Don't dry materials that are contaminated with flammable or combustible liquids or hazardous materials.
Stay home: Stay home when the dryer is in use. If you must leave, turn off the dryer.
Remove combustibles and keep at least 3’ clearance around it
Have working smoke alarms: Make sure your home has working smoke alarms.
Have a family escape plan: Practice a family escape plan with family members, and make sure everyone knows how to call for help
