SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The second week of testimony continues in the Leilani Simon murder trial. Prosecutors are trying to prove the Chatham County mother killed her toddler son Quinton in October 2022. The jury has now heard from 26 of the 40-plus witnesses who are expected to take the stand. It was also revealed that the list is changing, with the judge allowing for some new additions. Day seven of the trial is expected to begin at 9:30 a.m. (streaming at 10 a.m.) on Tuesday. Graphic content is possible. 10:08 a.m. - Court is called into session. 10:12 a.m. - Division manager for Waste Pro Joe Matz takes the stand. He works out of Hardeeville, South Carolina, and services the Savannah area. Waste Pro collects garbage at homes, businesses and construction sites. 10:17 a.m. - The state questions Matz on garbage trucks and compactors. 10:22 a.m. - Matz explains the route sheet for the driver who serviced Azalea Mobile Home Park on Oct. 5. 10:27 a.m. - The defense cross-examines. 10:43 a.m. - Donnard Johnson, of Waste Management, takes the stand. He's the senior district manager for the coastal sites. The state questions Johnson on his career and the operations of Waste Management and its landfills. 11:19 a.m. - Johnson is cross-examined. 11:29 a.m. - Johnson is excused. Court breaks for a recess. 12:17 p.m. - Court resumes. They discuss the state's motion to not broadcast the testimonies of Craig Westin and Tim Westin. 12:29 p.m. - Stokes rules that the testimony will not be recorded or broadcast. "This is still an open courtroom," she says. "We're just not recording and broadcasting," Stokes adds. 12:32 p.m. - The state again calls Chatham County Police Det. Marian Lemmons. She talks about two trips Simon told law enforcement she made between Oct. 4 and 5, including a visit with "Red," identified as Craig. 12:36 p.m. - Lemmons says based on cell phone records, Simon saved Craig as a contact in September 2022. There were text messages and phone calls between the two leading up to Oct. 4, she adds. Lemmons says they would discuss meeting up for sexual interactions at Craig's residence on Arkwright Road off of Highway 204. She reads a series of texts between the two in the early morning hours of Sept. 27, including a video Simon sent to Craig of herself masturbating. She reads other messages between the two about implied sexual encounters. 12:50 p.m. - The defense cross-examines. 12:54 p.m. - Lemmons reads messages from Simon to Craig asking about drugs, specifically Percocet and marijuana. 12:58 p.m. - The state redirects. Lemmons agrees with the state that this shows Craig was sleeping with Simon and supplying her drugs. 12:59 p.m. - The state calls Craig Westin to the stand. Note: his testimony will not be recorded or broadcast per the court's order. 1:06 p.m. - The court breaks for lunch.
